Not A Void

BY JEFF BETTGER

I first met Colleen when she was finishing up art school. She was mostly working with woodcut stamps at the time and had made some amazing prints with them. Colleen was part of an arts collective we had going in Pioneer Square, always adding a huge aesthetic to the events we did. I remember one time she stayed up all night cooking an amazing meal for a house show we put on. She killed it! She brought out the best choice food and the presentation was impeccable. Just like her artwork, there is much detail to pay attention to. What may seem loose and organic always has a deeper thought, purpose and meaning to it. Colleen always challenges herself by learning something new. She doesn’t let walls and barriers or learning curves keep her down. I believe her art reflects a sense of adventure and risk-taking that shows how she lives her every day life. Colleen goes with her gut and travels where the wind takes her.

I would highly recommend coming out to her opening for ‘Not a Void’ at Two Shelves this Thursday. I am sure you will be surprised by the adventurous spirit of her work. Here is what the gallery has to say about her show.

“Bratton works with repurposed cloth to create soft structures that explore the relationship between self and space. With her installation “Not a Void” Bratton fills the distance between the two shelves in an attempt to graph the dynamic relationship between two entities over time.”

Here is a video some good friends and fellow Artist Reformation conspirators created about Colleen's previous works.

Colleen RJC Bratton is an emerging conceptual visual artist in Seattle, WA. This piece was produced to live on her Ziibra page and highlights her "Soft Structures" and "#rip20thcentury" series. Since these bodies of work are very tactile and touchable, we wanted the video to have a similar inviting warmth and accessibility.
