Why I wrote a song about the minor prophet Zephaniah

We have been working on a project called Minor Prophets Minor Keys with a church. It is the  the first time since we became an official organization that we have partnered with a church on a project. I was a bit apprehensive about it as I am a strong contender to be active in the community with your creativity and often those who create art for or in a church context alienate themselves from the larger context of community.

This project however was an amazing idea. Justin ,the Pastor at Calvary the Hill, pitched it to me for Artist Reformation early last year. We began working on it and since the beginning I know I wanted to make a song for it as well. In the band I am currently with, DRYBNZ, we do not consider ourselves to be of any particular marketing genre so we would not consider ourselves to be or not be a "christian" band. We just make stuff we are interested in. I happened to be really interested in making something about the prophet Zephaniah particularly with DRYBNZ because of the angst of the book itself. The story is intense and I believed our music being somewhat experimental could add a nuance to the story that will only emphasize the destruction elements laid out in the book. Using noise, sonic landscapes, and rhythm to produce an atmosphere to conjure up this doom is exactly what drew me to this project. So here is a little video we shot explaining a bit about the book, and what stood out to me about it.
